Chennai Metro Rail Limited (CMRL) to celebrate the occasion of Kaanum Pongal and hold various events on January 16 at its stations in a bid to entertain and attract passengers. Commuters who are interested to take part in these events can reach at Alandur and Vadapalani metro stations, where various events will be held from 10 am to 8 pm.
It will cost you nothing to be part of these events as it has been reported that entry for all competitions will be free of cost. There are exciting prizes too, which will be distributed after the event culminates.
Events to be held during this occasion will include competitions such as essay writing for people of different age groups, drawing, and making rangoli. To make sure that the commuters are able to keep their tummy tight, food stalls will also be installed. Keeping in mind the interest of children, various activities have also been planned and a separate play area for kids will also be set up. Magic shows, face painting, mehndi, and tattoo booths will also be available to keep both children, and elders entertained.
Further, to make commuting convenient for passengers, Chennai Metro Rail will allow train services till 11:30 during the Pongal holidays. Reportedly, trains will be available till 11:30 pm on January 11 to 13, and on January 16 as well. It will be applicable on all operational lines, i.e., from Nehru Park to Airport, Little Mount to Airport, and Shenow Nagar to St Thomas Mount.
CMRL makes sure that the trains run on separate time tables on weekdays, and on Sundays. Therefore, time for the last train to run on the tracks is usually 10 PM, which will be extended further by 90 extra min to cater the Pongal rush.
