Officials of the Vijayawada Metro Rail Corporation on Wednesday held talks with the South Central Railway (SCR) authorities over the alignment of metro lines and stations in the Capital Region, said Divisional Railway Manager (DRM) R. Dhananjayulu.
The Vijayawada Metro Rail Corporation has planned the project, estimated to cost ₹650 crore, connecting the Eluru Road with the M.G. Road (Bandar Road) through various junctions to ease traffic congestion.
Addressing the media here, the DRM said, “Preliminary discussions were held on the alignment of the metro train lines and the stations. However, the alignments have not been finalised and the Vijayawada Metro Rail Corporation will discuss the matter with railway authorities in detail,” Mr. Dhananjayulu said.
Speaking on cashless transactions in the stations in the division, the DRM said the Vijayawada railway station had been identified as DigiPay Station and the staff were enlightening the passengers on online transactions.
Regarding the Station Re-Development Programme, Mr. Dhananjayulu said Vijayawada recorded a footfall of more than 1.5 lakh every day and nearly 140 trains run through it.
“The Indian Railways is focussing on Integrated Railway Stations and provide all facilities at the railway stations. Malls, theatres, ATMs, food courts, trading, connectivity with bus stations and other facilities would be provided under the Station Re-Development Programme,” he said.
The division will make all efforts to improve passenger safety and amenities during 2017-18. Additional DRM K. Venugopal Rao, Senior Divisional Commercial Manager Shifali Kumar and officers of other departments participated.
